Harmless Records Complete Discography
1993 – 2004
Notes:
á
Feel
free to get in touch if you have any questions.
á
The
descriptions are more detailed for the later releases when we were doing things
with a bit more of a ÒDIYÓ feel, so you can assume it was the usual printed jacket/jewel
case/whatever for releases without much detail in the description.
á
When
the pressing is listed as a round number (500, 1000), particularly with the
older releases, it was probably a few more. No one bothered to count ever copy
back then, and vinyl companies tend to overrun orders (still do!), sometimes by
as much as 20%.
á
We
didnÕt do anything packaging-wise with our test pressings until the later
records. For most of the older releases, there were 6-8 tests, always black vinyl,
and always with white or factory labels. We did write release numbers on them,
but only on the paper sleeves. In 2000, all of the remaining test pressings
still in the labelÕs possession were stamped with a Harmless logo to make them
easier to identify. Anything we did actual packaging for is noted in the
description for that record.

ordered 25 test pressings but unexpectedly got two more when the pressing plant
returned the plates and extra labels. The 106 red vinyl copies also came with a
photocopy of the flyer for the last show as an added insert.

The cover
for the record release show version is a black and white photocopy of the CD
art with Òrecord release showÓ on the back and on the insert. The insert says that
the record release show version is limited to 50 copies, but the actual number
of copies sold with this sleeve is closer to 70.

A
manufacturing error caused tracks 5 & 6 to skip on every copy of the
original pressing. Some of these were given away with full artwork at the
bandÕs record release show and along the route of their fall 2002 tour. None of
the defective ones were sold. Most of the remaining defective copies were
issued as promotional copies with photocopied covers in plastic sleeves.
HR036 Harmless Records 7Ó Boxed Set
Released
June 2004
5 numbered test pressings for
the exclusive split 7Ó contained in the boxed set.
50 one-sided 7Ós of each side of the exclusive split,
packaged together as a double 7Ó. The A-side 7Ó on is clear vinyl, and
the b-side 7Ó is on orange.
100 numbered boxed sets.
Each
boxed set contains an original release version of:
Walker
S/T 7Ó
The
Connie Dungs ÒMissy & JohnnyÓ 7Ó
Thirty
Seconds Deep ÒHot CarlÓ 7Ó
The Bollweevils/Walker split 7Ó
The Letterbombs ÒS/TÓ 7Ó (Boxed sets #s 1-40 bottle glass green
vinyl)
Apocalypse
Hoboken/Oblivion split 7Ó
The Letterbombs ÒWhat The Hell Just Happened?!Ó
7Ó (blue vinyl)
LynyrdÕs
Innards ÒHouston, We Have A ProblemÓ 7Ó (green vinyl)
The Wayouts ÒCheap Merlot & Luckies/AutonomyÓ
7Ó
And:
The Õ84
Mariners/Boy Named Sue split 7Ó, two-sided ltd. to 100 version
on dark orange/red vinyl that is exclusive to the boxed set.
+ stickers and buttons
The boxed
set covers for numbers 1-50 & numbers 51-100 are slightly different. Both
have the same block lettering, but the band names in the background are
different for each version. On numbers 1-50, Walker is the first band listed at
the top, and on numbers 51-100 Oblivion is the first. All 100 sets came with a Letterbombs sticker, a Wayouts
sticker, and all but the first few came with a Harmless Records button. The
first 50 also came with a Letterbombs button, and the
first 40 had the colored vinyl version of the first Letterbombs
7Ó.
As
mentioned above, there was also separately packaged 2x7Ó version of the Õ84
Mariners/Boy Named Sue split that was limited to 50 copies. We did this so that
the members of the two bands on the exclusive split would be able to have a few
copies that werenÕt tied to the entire boxed set. To make this version of the record
clearly different from the boxed set version, we pressed each side of the split
as its own 1-sided record on different colors of vinyl and made a simple cover
using some leftover old My Foolish Halo 7Ó covers. The test pressings for the
split were black vinyl double-sided records with a red/blue spray-painted cover
design that really doesnÕt have anything to do with the look of the rest of the
set.

Complex S/T 12Ó EP/CDEP
Released
March 2002
One
pressing of 350
50
record release show
300
gray opaque vinyl with printed jackets
The
record release show version was 50 hand-numbered black vinyl test pressings with
black labels. For covers we bought blank black jackets with die cut centers and
spray-painted the bandÕs name in orange and white with a stencil. The numbering
was done in silver on the back of the jacket. We attempted to stamp some text
on the labels of the records but the ink didnÕt dry right and they arenÕt really
readable. The regular release of this was intended to be 300 copies on gray
opaque vinyl with a printed jacket, but it was never completed. We got far
enough that the vinyl was actually pressed, but the jackets were never printed.
Maybe weÕll finish it Someday.

5 Test
pressings
One
pressing of 200
52 clear
vinyl
150 black
vinyl
We ordered
50 clear vinyl copies and 150 black, but ended up with 46 clear vinyl copies, 152
black vinyl copies, and 6 copies that were a bit of both. All of them have the
Black Flag bars spray-painted on the blank B-side. We intended to use primer
gray paint on the black vinyl and black paint on the clear vinyl, but it didnÕt
quite work out that way. The insert for the record jokes about the paint fumes
getting to us, but we really just started to run out of paint and had to use
whatever we could find lying around to finish. It wasnÕt intended to get this
ridiculous, but hereÕs what we ended up with:
117 black
vinyl, gray paint
12 black vinyl, orange and gray paint
12 black vinyl, orange paint
10 black vinyl, black paint
1 black vinyl, black paint with
labels on both sides
26 clear vinyl, black paint
10 clear vinyl, gray paint
5 clear vinyl, orange and gray
paint
3 clear vinyl, orange and black
paint
1 clear vinyl, orange paint
1 clear vinyl, black paint with
labels on both sides.
6 half clear vinyl, half black
vinyl, orange and gray paint.
The
covers are Walker LP jackets flipped inside out and hand screened. There are no
track separators in between the songs. The test pressings are on black vinyl
with white labels. The B-sides of the tests are also blank, but they were never
painted. The test pressings also came in flipped Walker jackets with ÒHR033Ó in
gold in the top left corner, as well as the Harmless logo stamp on the back
center, and Ò*Test Pressing*Ó in gold at the bottom right. The A-side white
labels were stamped with the Harmless logo, so that it would overlap onto the
white sleeve.
HR032 Bhopal Stiffs Ò1985-1989Ó CD
Released
October 2001
CD only
500
promotional copies have Òpromotional use onlyÓ printed on the CD face.
We were
originally going to start with 200 promotional copies, but getting an extra
300, as long as they were the promo non-jewel case version, was literally an
extra $10. So they are a lot of promo copies out there for this release.
HR031 Dance & Destroy S/T 7Ó
Released
October 2001
5 white
label test pressings
One
pressing of 303
52
black vinyl
251 red
opaque vinyl
This
record was a hand-numbered edition of 303, with the first 52 on black vinyl and
the remaining 251 on red opaque vinyl. The labels are black and the records are
numbered out of 303 on the A-side in silver. A lot of people have mistakenly
thought they had copy #31 since the release number is written on every copy
under the Harmless Records logo stamped on the inside of the cover. The covers we
used are leftover Traitors 7Ó covers painted with black house paint. The
plastic sleeves are spray-painted with a stencil of the bandÕs name. The 52 on
black vinyl are painted in orange, and the 251 on red vinyl are painted in gray.
Some of the red marble ones, approx. 10-20, towards the middle of the pressing
are just clear red vinyl. The 5 test pressings are big hole (the regular
pressing is small hole), white label, and black vinyl, and they were packaged
in the same black painted covers and numbered out of 5 in silver on the back of
the cover. They were also stamped on the inside with a Harmless logo, but have
the release number written on the A-side label (in silver) instead of under the
logo. The plastic sleeves were not painted with the bandÕs name.
HR030 Seven Days Of Samsara/Since By Man split LP
Released
January 2001
One pressing
of 1210
110
tour edition. White label test pressings, hand numbered with screened covers.
350
orange & black mix opaque vinyl, with printed covers and labels.
685
black vinyl, with printed covers and labels (originally 750, but 65 became the
Òflood editionÓ).
65 flood
edition.
The
tour edition was 100 test pressings for the Seven Days Of Samsara
ÒTotal DangerÓ 2001 winter tour. We knew we couldnÕt finish the full version of
the record in time for the tour, so we ordered extra tests. We received 110
copies, all on black vinyl with white labels. The jackets for these were hand-numbered
and hand-screened. Numbers 001-100 are on Walker LP jackets flipped inside out,
and numbers 101-110 are on plain brown cardboard. The inserts for the tour
version are photocopied double-sided 11x17 sheets of paper, although a few of
the last 10 got the double 11x17 inserts for the colored vinyl version.
The
ÒregularÓ release has a die cut printed jacket, printed inner sleeve, and
printed labels. Of these, 350 are on the orange & black opaque mix vinyl,
and 685 are on black. For inserts (all are photocopied), the first 100 of the
colored vinyl (and last few of the tour version) have 2 double-sided 11x17
sheets. The remaining 200 colored vinyl have a single double-sided 11x17 sheet that
is different from that of the tour insert. The remaining 685 black vinyl have a
half sheet double-sided insert.
Finally,
65 copies of the black vinyl version that had their jackets destroyed in a
flood (clean water!). The vinyl was salvaged and re-packaged in more Walker LP
jackets flipped inside out and hand-screened & hand-numbered. The art is
completely different from that of the other editions. Most of the ÒfloodÓ
edition were given away or sold for a buck or two at most since the quality of
the vinyl could no longer be assured.

220 pressed

This
was a special limited-edition anniversary release. Most were given away to
close friends with a few offered through mailorder
and a few select stores. The covers were extra Walker LP jackets flipped inside
out and re-glued. The back was stamped with two different harmless logos, some
multiple times if the first attempts didnÕt come out, and the front had a
printout of the artwork glued on.

had leftover.

Released
April 1995
2106
pressed in four pressings.
First
pressing: 1000 black. A-side
labels wrong speed, blue/black cover.
Second
pressing: 500 black. A-side labels wrong speed, blue/black cover.
Third
pressing: 500 black. A-side labels
wrong speed, blue/black cover.
Fourth
pressing: 106 white. A-Side labels wrong speed, red/black cover.
The
first pressing was 1000, and had a solid black background on the cover. The
later pressings have more of a grey background, but it is really hard to tell
the difference unless you have one of each to compare. The a-side labels have
the wrong speed listed on every pressing. This was probably our most popular 7Ó
ever and we never bothered to fix the labels. Go figure. The fourth pressing
was a special final edition of 106 on white vinyl with the girl on the cover in
red instead of blue. In the late 1990Õs we went back and did limited-edition
final pressings for a few earlier releases that had never been released in any
limited version. This was one of them.
HR004 Walker S/T 7"
Released
October 1994
1500
pressed in three pressings.
First
pressing: 500 black. Says ÒHarmless 004-First PressingÓ on insert. Later
pressings have this blacked out.
Second
pressing: 500 black
Third
pressing: 500 black
HR003 Winepress "Worth A
Thousand Words" 7"
Released
December 1994
First
pressing: 500 black vinyl
Second
pressing: 500 black vinyl
This
release was technically two separate pressings of 500, but there is no way to
tell them apart. The printer overrun didnÕt quite meet the pressing overrun, so
the last few were sold without covers.
HR002 My Foolish Halo "Piaphabakrist" 7"
Released
September 1994
300
pressed on black vinyl. One pressing only.
HR001 Chemical Blue/The Mushuganas split 7"
Released
December 1993
1200
pressed in 3 pressings.
First pressing: 500 hand-numbered. 101 purple opaque
vinyl
399 black vinyl
Ò50's college kidsÓ cover.
Second pressing: 500 black
vinyl. ÒSavage NomadsÓ cover.
Third pressing: 200 pink opaque vinyl. ÒJoe Mushugana's HeadÓ cover.
The
back cover of the third pressing talks about 5 pressings, but that is
misleading. Joe Mushugana wrote that part, and while
itÕs true that the 500 for the second pressing were ordered and pressed at
different times, they are identical, and have the same cover, so it makes more
sense to just consider it one pressing. Approximately 20 of the third press are
way more red than pink.
The Mushuganas line up on this record features Ebro from Los Crudos/Charles Bronson on drums.
